Privacy policy

This is the privacy policy for sweeble and sweeblenews. It tells you how we will collect, store, use and protect the information you give us about yourself and any group or organisation you represent. We may make minor changes or tweaks to the policy from time to time, but major changes will be flagged up in a notice on both websites.


1. Collection of information


We collect only the information we need to be able to deliver to you the services we’ve promised on either sweeble or sweeblenews and to monitor each site’s effectiveness. This includes:


  • On both sweeble and sweeblenews we collect your email address to authenticate your log in, send you confirmation emails and to protect your account from unauthorised access. Your email may also be used to send you internal news and marketing (which you can opt out of) and to contact you in the event of any problems with your account or with the material you have submitted.
  • On sweeble, we also collect your phone number for account authentication purposes and in order to reply to you (other than by email) if you contact us.
  • On sweeble, we also collect information you give us about you/your group, club or organisation to identify the type of user you are, location and likely distribution of your newsletter in order to categorise your material.
  • We do not store credit card information. Credit card transactions are transmitted to a financial gateway, managed by Lloyds TSB Cardnet, and we endeavor to protect the security of your payment information during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.
  • Sweeble and sweeblenews server logs collect standard web log entries for each page served, including your IP address, browser type and langauage, and referring page/site. Information displayed or clicked in the sweeble interface while you are logged in is also recorded. Web logs help us to diagnose problems and to monitor usage of our sites.
  • When you visit sweeble, we may send one or more cookies to your computer that identifies your browser and is used to store your preferences. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or periodically clear them. Be aware that some cookies may be necessary to enable some site functions to work correctly.
  • When you send an email to sweeble or sweeblenews, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.

2. Use of information

  • We may use the information we collect on user activity to help us understand how users are using our websites and services. We may also release aggregate information on user activity (eg in a report on user numbers/trends) but we will not release any information which could identify you or your organization without your prior permission.
  • We don't share your information with third parties for marketing purposes or employ tracking devices (eg cookies or web beacons) for marketing purposes.
  • We will not rent or sell the information you give us about yourself to anyone.
  • Sweeble or sweeblenews may provide links to third party websites. Our users may provide links to third party sites within content they post or websites they set up using sweeble or sweeblenews software. We are not responsible for, nor have any control over, the privacy policies of those third party websites. These other sites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information from you.
  • We may disclose information we hold about individual sweeble or sweeblenews users if required to do so by law, court orders, or other reasonable legal process.
  • We may also disclose such information to the police, legal prosecutors or our own legal representatives if in the good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Service, or respond to claims that any posting or other content violates the rights of third-parties, or to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of our staff, our website users, members or the general public.
  • If we want to collect or use personal information for purposes other than those described in this policy, we will serve notice and offer you an effective way to opt out of the use of personal information for those other purposes.
  • We restrict access to personal information to our employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate or develop services on our behalf (for instance in relation to credit card transactions). These individuals and companies are bound by confidentiality and security obligations and agreements.
  • International: Sweeble and sweeblenews are based in the UK. We may process personal information and data you have supplied on our servers in the UK or in other countries. By visiting our websites and providing us with data, you acknowledge and agree that we may use the data collected in the course of our relationship for the purposes identified in this policy or in our other communications with you, including the transmission of information outside your resident jurisdiction.

3. Information we store

  • All content posted to sweeble or sweeblenews, whether in draft, edit or published (print or web) form by our registered users is stored in our database, even after deletion, and may be archived elsewhere.
  • Our server web logs and other records may be stored indefinitely.
  • Although we make good faith efforts to store the information in a secure, non-public operating environment, we cannot guarantee complete security.
