Graduates urged to look closer to home

Graduates who live in rural areas are missing the opportunity to land themselves highly paid jobs – as they think they need to move away in search of work.

Many recruitment agencies in rural towns are struggling to fill posts which require graduates. Working Solutions, the recruitment agency based in Ludlow, currently have over 15 jobs, with salaries between £15,000 and £40,000, which they are having difficulty filling.

They are launching a graduate opportunity scheme to raise the awareness of the great opportunities available in the area for highly qualified and motivated people.

Recruitment consultant Jessica Dovey said:
“Graduates and highly skilled professionals are moving to cities such as Birmingham and London to look for work, as they believe there aren’t any suitable jobs for them in south Shropshire. However, we have several highly paid jobs which need to be filled by such candidates and urge them to look closer to home.”

One such vacancy is a position as an executive assistant to the managing director of a successful local company. Jane Hughes, recruitment consultant said: “Our remit is to find a graduate with ambition and drive but we have been surprised by the small number of applicants for this exceptional position.”

Many graduates and professionals are very happy living in the area but feel they need to move away to develop their career but this doesn’t have to be the case.

Julia Hughes, managing director said: “We have recently placed a Mechanical Engineering and other technical graduates in a trainee role at an international firm in North Herefordshire and there are many more excellent opportunities in the area.”

The message to people leaving universities is that they are missing out on great jobs on their doorstep.
